Although it's not black, I think that I would investigate the NP3 or NP3+ finish if I ever need another pistol coated. One last thought: go to and check out their black finishes, including Roguard. I have a couple of pistols with Cerakote applied by experts. I have or have had 2 pistols with Black-T which has its merits, but it wears more quickly. However, it does wear eventually if you practice a lot. Ionbond is really excellent and wears minimally in holsters except at the more sharp corners. Nowadays you have to go through one of their approved gunsmiths to have your pistol sent for their PVD coating. I have several pistols with Ionbond-done about 10-12 years ago-after custom work was done by three different gunsmiths.
